What is Eglinton 2020?
Mission Statement:
Eglinton 2020 has been formed to bring together the diverse community groups, businesses and people who are concerned about the overall impact of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT on community and commercial life along the Eglinton corridor.
Considering the needs of all people in the surrounding neighbourhoods, we want to advocate strongly to ensure that Eglinton Avenue becomes safe, sustainable, environmentally responsible and business-friendly.
Eglinton 2020 Principles
Community-oriented
The development of the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown should promote community engagement and interaction. We envisage attractive public and commercial spaces, both indoor and outdoor, where community vitality is promoted and people of all ages enjoy activities together. Commercial and residential development along the route should be sustainable and in keeping with the character and needs of the existing neighbourhoods.
Integrated transit
All forms of transit and transportation should be considered and integrated into planning, both at the stations and along Eglinton Avenue and neighbouring streets. There should be safe, accessible and inviting conditions for LRT commuters, as well as pedestrians and cyclists.
Business-enabling
The stations should be seen as more than transit points, but should be destinations integrating lively commercial and community activity. Appropriate mixed use, commercial and residential development—including densification—is essential to community life and to long-term sustainability along the route. Enabling a wide variety of commercial activity at street level is key to local businesses and communities.
Environmental sustainability
As Torontonians, we put great value in the greening of our city and the benefits of environmental sustainability. Eglinton 2020 will work to ensure all aspects of the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown development will be environmentally responsible and sustainable.
Membership
Eglinton 2020 intends to be an inclusive organization involving participation of all community, residents and business stakeholders to become involved in guiding the positive development of the Eglinton-Scarborough Crosstown and its communities.

Nice site! I’m definitely looking forward to discussing the future of Eglinton here, and at the meeting tonight at Forest Hill United Church.
Why not install a suspended monorail that would be above all the traffic, snow and pedestrians and be weather immune. They have been running them in Wuppertal and Düsseldorf Germany, Tokyo, Chiba City and Shonan Japan. this would take subway volumes of passengers without tunneling at a fraction of the cost. Bombardier already manufactures a monorail for a number of cities around the world. I should think that they could manufacture this.
This is a great idea for a forum/site – Thank you To Mike Colle and everyone who supports the Eglinton Crosstown LRT. Let’s not downplay the the importance of the above ground design and layout for each station and area along the entire corridor.
